2/12/20 & 2/26/20- We've had fun in Legos lately. We built wind racers and got to race them with a fan! SO MUCH FUN!! The next week we decided to mix it up and paint a lego self portrait of ourselves. They turned out great!!
2/5/20- Today we played our favorite game....build and knock the towers down. They each built a tower then 2 at a time they race to see who can knock the most down first (using a rolled up sock). Building and active fun combined together!
1/29/20- Today we learned about Twisters and even watched a video on how twisters come to be. After that the challenge was to build a twister. Everyone's was different and very creative.
1/15/20 & 1/22/20- The last two weeks we have had fun building. The first week we made a secret code with legos and then our friend had to figure out what we "wrote" with our legos. Today we built half a lego and then passed it to a friend and they had to build the other half.
Always so much fun building in class!
12/11/19- We worked on ramps and slides today. I brought in all kinds of cardboard we cut it up and taped it together. Made whatever lego vehicle to go for the ride. Once they kids built something they were able to then combine with a friend for a more exciting adventure for their lego mobile.
12/4/19- Today we built a Lego bridge. They were able to work together and built a pretty long bridge. It was able to hold all kinds of things too... my bucket of pennies, the clorox wipes bucket, and some toy food from the kinder room. :)
Lots of engineering fun to figure out how to make that sturdy enough to hold all that.
11/20/19- We had lots of fun with some minute to win it lego games. We actually just played them head to head style not timed. So we only made it through a few. The kids are hoping we do more in December because they had so much fun! :)
11/13/19- Today we built tree houses... there was lots of thought and effort put into these. It's fun to see the kids personalities come out more and more in the way they build. After the tree houses we made spinning tops the last few minutes of class.
11/6/19- Ziplines today! This was loads of fun for the kids! The challenge was to create something that a lego man could sit in (not be stuck in) and slide down the line without falling off or breaking their contraption. If they mastered one piece they got to make a second one.
10/30/19- Today's challenge was to build a boat that could 1. Float and 2. hold as many pennies as possible. The kids could try it out and make improvements as needed. This kept us busy busy today! The winning boat ended up holding 35 pennies!
10/23/19- Self portraits today. Thanks to Gibson for bringing in some cookies we had some good motivation for completing today's challenge. They could get a cookie once they completed the task and we all agreed that they put in good effort to try and make the legos look a little like themselves. :)
I thought they did a great job!
10/16/19- Catapults was the challenge for today. This took the kids a bit to figure out. Once they did the creations they came up with were great! We moved out to the hall to launch our lego guys as far as we could.
10/9/19- We used our engineering skills today to construct Lego mazes. They had to build a lego maze on their large boards fill it with lots of tricks to challenge their friends. Then once completed they could swap their mazes and try to solve their friends maze. The kids had loads of fun with this one. They were all very creative!
10/2/19- Today we constructed Lego targets for Nerf toys. I brought a whole slew of nerf toys for the kiddos to shoot with at their Lego targets. It was fun to see the different types of targets created. Some really small (hard to hit) some really big (much easier). In the end we ended up using a few combined and shooting at them all together as a group then re-assembling as a group too.
9/25/19- Today in class we made balloon powered lego cars. There were lots of fun creations and if they mastered the car they could build a balloon powered plane or boat or anything else. We had a fun race out in the hall. It's always fun to see one car do great one race and another a different race....sometimes variables change and we were able to have a few different winners! Yay!
9/18/19- After our free build time I showed the kids a bucket of building cards I have. There are lots of different building ideas on the cards. We will use these as a starter from time to time. Today we decided we should all build off of the same card. We drew a random card and it was Build a bedroom for Darth Vader. Some had seen the movies, some had not. Some didn't even know anything about Star Wars. But ALL the kids came up with some great creations!! I was very impressed with the creativity going on. After the kids cleaned up all the legos (we dumped them all on the ground to play today, so we had a big mess) we got to play a quick game of 4 corners before class ended.
9/11/19- Today in Lego's we started each class with some free building time. Then we moved to our game of the day. Each child was blindfolded and could build whatever they could in 3 minutes. It is harder than you think to build blindfolded! Then after the time was up they could use the rest of class to build onto their creation making it something amazing! We had a lot of fun getting to know each other and just loosening up today.
